Evolution Of Fatal Frame Series (2001.–2021.)
In today's episode of "Evolution Of...", we'll showcase the evolutionary path of Project Zero series, better known in the west under the name of Fatal Frame. It is a series of survival horror video games developed by Koei Tecmo and later Nintendo since 2001. Simmilarly to another Japanese survival horror series, Clock Tower, games in this series are characterized by an unorthodox approach to combat and enemies since instead of standard zombies or other types of monsters, players in this series face ghosts with only weapon capable of stopping them being a special camera. Alongside such gameplay design, series is also notable for utilizing almost exclusively female protagonists. There were five mainline games released between 2001 and 2014 with one remake of the second game released in 2012 and a spin-off released that same year for Wii U. The latest mainline entry, Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water originally released in 2014 is set for re-release on 8th and 9th generation consoles in October 2021.
