Exploring 3D Game Development in Godot: Tower Defense & Dynamic Pathfinding - Episode 44
In this video, I take another step in my game development learning journey with Godot 4 by diving into 3D game creation! After setting the stage with earlier projects like Pong, Minesweeper, and a platformer, Iām now tackling the basics of building a 3D tower defense game with dynamic pathfinding and destructible obstacles. My goal is to experiment with new concepts, especially pathing systems and 3D asset management, while figuring out how to develop a fun and engaging gameplay loop.
Along the way, I share my thought process while brainstorming mechanics for the game, such as towers blocking paths versus guiding enemies dynamically, and explore the challenges of building from scratch without pre-defined paths. I also delve into Blender integration with Godot, play with shaders, and try importing a simple monkey mesh to see how Godot handles external assets. Import/export, scaling models, and material adjustments are all part of the learning experience here.
Whether you're a fellow beginner in game development or looking to explore Godot 4's capabilities for 3D games, this session offers a casual yet informative walkthrough of my thought processes and experiments. I'll also share my insights on using Blender and planning game systems beyond tutorials.
