Eureka, Nevada has a lot of mining history hidden in the hills outside of town. One of the biggest mines there was the Diamond Tunnel. it was dug into the mountain for a couple thousand feet. I went there not knowing if the mine was still accessible or not. Unfortunately, I found the tunnel had been eroded shut. There was still a lot of interesting historic relics at the site including workshops, battery-operated mine cars, huge ore bins, gigantic tailing piles, and a long "snow tunnel" for the mine cars that led right up to the eroded Diamond Tunnel portal.
