VGP2 - Virtual Grand Prix 2 by Paolo "The Alien" Cattani/Alassoft/Lago, 2003.

Also possibly known as Paolo Cattani's VGP2 Virtual Grand Prix 2, according to the in-game credits. This was an almost solo effort F1 game, and a sequel to a lesser known Commodore Amiga original game. It's quite a tricky little simulator, compromised only by fairly simplistic graphics and sound. However, Paolo suffered most from distribution problems from Lago, meaning the game is hard to find. I have a copy of the French version (which includes an English option). I've heard the German version doesn't work very well (or at all)!

1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 The computer controlled cars are generally pretty well behaved, although they do seem to appear to enjoy weaving about! There's 2 in-car views, one with slight head movement, shown here, and one where your view is locked onto the car.

2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:36 The rain effect is pretty much a lot of fog and some rudimentary spray effects from the cars.

3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:54 There's no Monaco in this game, so I used Magny-Cours' hill/bridge instead.

4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:06 Rain in the game seems semi-rare (it took many attempts to get it at Spa-Francorchamps). The rain effect is pretty much just fog, and more drab colours. You can hear my engineer saying I'm low on fuel, as the race was only set to a few laps long. The track modelling is pretty basic (with many trees to obscure the view) and no bridge at the top of the hill.

5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:29 If you bump a wall then this is the minimum damage you'll get; a completely broken front end! Stopping in the pits doesn't seem to do much (there is a button to change tyres, but it didn't do anything for me). I like the end quote from the engineer!

6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 2:04 Crashes can be semi-spectacular, as the car digs in and leaps over the gravel traps (much as can happen in real life), but it won't flip. Damage (apart from missing wings and broken wheels) is suggested by a combination of a yellow and white glowing effect on impact. It makes it look like the cars have exploded temporarily!
