F1 2024 Italy GP Qualifying Analysis - What Did We Learn?

Qualifying on Saturday is over at Monza and the fastest driver of the day was Lando Norris in the Mclaren as the Mclaren team have another 1-2 finish as Piastri will be lining up on the grid alongside Norris. Red Bull are looking like they will not be the championship leaders for much longer as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez finished down in 7th and 8th place which is one of their worst qualifying sessions of the year. Mercedes recovered to finish in 3rd and 6th today as George Russell will be looking to try and take the lead off of the line at the start of the race. Lewis Hamilton was disappointed but was very close to pole showing just how close F1 is these days.
Ferrari are at their home race and it is Charles Leclerc who is ahead of teammate Carlos Sainz but as usual there is very little to tell between them as they will be starting in 4th and 5th place.
Monza is one of the most historic race circuits on the calendar and at this race the drivers will be running the minimum levels of downforce as they are trying to maximise their straight line speed performance, this is where we see the highest speeds and highest braking zones of the year. The low downforce means mistakes and lockups are much easier and happen more often.
