A move to clear up penalty ambiguity
Grid penalties were highlighted at last year's Italian Grand Prix, when a number of drivers took power unit and gearbox-related drops and flipped the order.
Following some uncertainty about how these were implemented, the regulations' wording has been modified.
"Classified drivers who have collected more than 15 cumulative grid position penalties, or who have been forced to start at the rear of the grid, will start behind any other classified driver," the relevant section now states.
Their relative position will be decided by their qualification classification."
