The dreaded desert map is here. Or maybe long-awaited? I was kinda looking forward to doing this map, to be frank. As is usual in Fire Emblem, foot units and cavalry have difficulty moving around much of the map, while fliers and mages enjoy unlimited movement. The enemy army exploits this to the maximum with multiple dracoknights, mages and even a boss that uses a siege tome in Swarm (our first encounter with one I'm fairly sure).

Our royal airforce is also in good condition. Abel and Shiida are the most competent combat units in the party offensively, able to OHKO the bishop with silver lance and the Bolganone mages with a javelin (in case of a whiff I guess). I have three more units capable of flight, those being Jagen, Boah and Midia; however, they don't contribute to any fighting done in the video (cuz they're jeigans that hog exp xD). Jagen and Boah are there to go shopping and probably activate one of the save points while Midia carries out the task of opening the two chests with stat boosters - an Energy Drop and a Talisman. Jake may have taken the first drop, but his rapidly increasing strength levelling has reached such proportions that he may well cap his strength stat without any outside help before the run's over.

The dracoknights aggro quickly and are the hardest enemies to deal with here, with high strength and speed, outspeeding many of our allies and even OHKOing some. Marth can avoid being ORKO'd at this point, but we are still interested in limiting the enemies' exposure to him. This map is ideal for sacrificing a couple more units to unlock the upcoming gaiden after chapter 17. I feed Astram to the dracoknight with the most range on turn 2, and then also sacrifice Wolf to Gharnef who doesn't hesitate to start approaching us either. Astram and Wolf both find little use in our strategies to come, Astram's swords being underwhelming and Wolf being almost entirely outclassed by the newcomer Horace (who's still not doing much in the shadow of Barst and Sedgar, who share his Class Set). If we ever want a silver sword user for whatever reason, Cain should fill the role whenever he promotes and reclasses to Swordmaster.

Every time you have a map with dracoknights, you begin to miss the absence of Excalibur. Having just a single user of this tome would make the early dracoknight ambush so much easier to deal with. Later, dracoknights will fly towards Abel and Shiida as well, but these two don't have any trouble doubling and ORKOing with silver lance.

This is a great map for the self-improvement of offensive units. Sedgar, being a defensive one, doesn't find nearly as much use when he's not tanking a large crowd of foes. That's fine; there will be uses for a wall later.
