Our third gaiden chapter is an unusual one. It may be another long map, and its exclusive character can actually be recruited (just don't kill Etzel on the way to the throne) but this isn't quite what I mean by 'unusual'. Only a portion of the map is initially revealed to you, and even Etzel himself cannot be seen at first. If you Warp one of your allies past a certain point before turn 2, Etzel cannot be recruited at all; luckily, there's no Warp in this run anyway.

As you progress and turns pass, more and more of the map is revealed. It is actually uncanny how close everything is, giving Jake plenty of opportunities to shoot promoted enemies before they can endanger Marth (who is fast enough to actually double the cavaliers in this chapters, believe it or not). Jake snipes enemies mostly to level himself up and proc more strength, not to chip at random enemies for others to kill. His accurate ammo is very limited and we don't want it to run short before chapter 22 when more ammunition can be bought. Before then, we're being as frugal as we can.

Cain promotes prior to the map. In a long map like this, being mobile matters. As a Paladin, Cain has more mobility, slightly better stats and ranks (wielding javelins and steel lances for the first time), as well as access to classes like Dracoknight, Swordmaster and Sniper later. SM!Cain has the best sword rank in the army, and Sniper!Cain is the most likely sniper we could ever have seeing how Abel, Shiida and Hardin hate to lose their A rank lances upon reclassing out of cavalry/draco.

Shiida and Abel reclass to Paladin again. The chance to grow more than 23 spd is appreciated (in Shiida's case), as is the higher chance of a strength or defence proc. Why we're really doing this is to not be destroyed by bow users, both Shiida and Abel taking one on at some point.

In this map, if you don't have 9+ move, you have no business following Marth to the throne room. Barst, Lena and others therefore stay in the starting area and, with nothing better to do, open some rooms out of idle curiosity and desire to face some enemies for experience, Julian opening a completely irrelevant chest in the process. There's a Wing Spear to be obtained in this chapter, but it's the farthest item and is out of reach in a 7-turn clear. We should have enough uses, I imagine, and Gradivus will be ours very soon for ranged attacks.

Having enough strength to OHKO mages is definitely a major boon for Abel and Shiida. A lot of lategame tasks should be much easier with them 2HKOing the vast majority of foes with basic weaponry.

How good is Etzel? He has the tome rank to use Excalibur, which we do not have... Compared to Boah, he has way better magic and bulk, but 9 spd means he has no business engaging armoured knights, who he doesn't double much of the time. D staves means no assistance with Physic, so Boah is still more valuable, and of course Lena is the most valuable healer of them all.

I'd used an Arms Scroll on Sedgar for Silver Bow access as a Horseman in this map, having specific objectives in mind. As the strategy changed, I didn't need the silver bow at all and kinda regretted the choice. Kinda, because nobody really benefits that drastically from the scroll in this run, believe it or not.
