One of the chapters taking most turns to finish, with seven new characters to boot. Granted, most of them are quite useless, or not worthy of a longterm investment.

Hardin and four other mounted units join on turn 1 and can be used to clear the enemies next to the boss before the main party reaches that part of the map, or they could help feed the kills to other units. Well, Hardin himself is a really good unit. If the player has been raising Kain and Abel, one of these may or may not be better than Hardin at base level, but Hardin's neat bases are quite reliable for those players who weren't as lucky. In this run, you probably already know my Abel was blessed with really good levelups early on and is thus much better than Hardin could hope to be (though it's too soon to tell tbqh).

The rest of them... Wolf and Zagaro are instant Horsemen, mounted units with bows, but the exact utility of that in this game remains questionable. Their base stats are quite similar to unpromoted units. Wolf starts at a higher level and has much better growths than Zagaro, but if you train and eventually promote Kashim, then there's really no reason whatsoever to even bother with him. Should one decide to use Wolf anyway, promoted units gaining experience at the same pace as unpromoted ones and the extremely potent stat boosters may make Wolf sufficiently usable anyway, given the investment.

Roshe and Biraku are just atrocious. Roshe is about as good as Abel and Kain were at base, while Biraku is just underwhelming. His portrait has an uncanny resemblance to the yaranaika guy however, so using him is a good way to entertain yourself if you're not otherwise enjoying yourself with this game. Going for low turns in this run, we can't quite afford the luxury of dumping exp into him and resetting for half-decent levelups. The same applies for Machis (whose original join map has been erased from the game), who's basically Biraku without the glorious portrait and 0 luck instead of it.

Visiting Marich's village is a requirement here however, costing us a couple turns, and Marich is actually worth a more careful look. Marich's strength (=magic) stat is low at 1 and doesn't grow all that much if given training, but he's a capable fighter nevertheless thanks to his Excalibur tome, which is fixed to Marich and unusable by anyone else in this game. The weapon is quite light, and it's powerful with crit higher than your regular killer weapon. Perfect for slaying armours, though I think I would still try feeding the armour kill to somebody else who has a horse or has some other kind of utility. Because this game has a single Wlv stat for any weapon type, Marich can be made a user of Warp should you keep using him and then use a Bishop Ring to promote him (it comes so late though). This is hardly necessary with so many Warp/Reblow/Reserve users available right off the bat, though.

By using Warp on Marth with Rena on turn 3/4 after he visits Marich's village, we can shave off 3 turns from this map's completion, which actually pales in comparison to other potential uses of the staff early on before we acquire the second one. Sadly, there's not much use for these extra 3 turns when we decide to abstain from wasting a Warp use here, as the enemies are easy to kill by turn 3-4.

This chapter is actually rather demanding for good levelups, with Marth needing 2 strength procs in order to ensure a 2-turn clear of the map immediately following the present one. Besides that, I don't believe any other levelups happen. Oh yeah, Oguma gets yet another crappy levelup that's exactly like his previous one and also exactly like the next one he's getting. I have a feeling Samson will be outstating him even if I manage to promote Oguma around midgame or so.

Because I have a good idea who I want to be training for longterm use by now, I start feeding kills to previously neglected units, namely Julian and Kashim. I also seize giving Kain any special attention, as two proficient cavs in Abel and Hardin should more than suffice.
