Ryu's final solo challenge!

Well, this is the battle we've been preparing for. Immediately after the fight, the party engages in the decisive battle against the Dragon Lord so not only do we need a setup with which we are more likely to be lucky to win here, the chosen Ryu build should synergise well with the other two characters in the following fight.

More or less, I have two main offensive options here - either Berserk with a build that maximises attack, or a Last Resort with the maximum possible power+defence combination. The former can afford to equip stuff like Blizzard Mail to free up an accessory slot for... a Titan Belt? Uh, yeah. The latter build demands both accessory slots used for double Ivory Charm in order to protect from the boss's ice magic and status attempts. The Berserk build requires no skills (which you save up for your other characters), while the Last Resort build is controllable and can therefore use Triple Blow to attack.

Both builds effectively reach the same level of damage output against the boss, finishing the fight in 3-4 turns, and in the end, I settle for the Last Resort one, because somebody else will be the berserker in the next battle and make a more effective one than Ryu potentially could (due to durability issues pretty much).

So 3-4 turns is the time Ryu should survive against whatever the boss throws at him. Ryu is not affected by Sleep, Chill and Blizzard, but a regular physical blow deals way too much damage for a lv. 1 bloke with just 20 HP. The physical attack has a 50% chance of being used each turn, and apprenticed under Meryleep, Ryu will dodge it 18% of the time. So you can say that's 3-4 coin flip rounds Ryu has to withstand.

The weapon of choice is definitely the Holy Avenger we got in the previous fight. The boss takes 100% extra damage from holy-elemental weapons, and is also of the Devil type, giving us quadruple power against him. GooKingSword won't be anywhere as strong here.

After some failed attempts, we win and advance to the next boss battle that unfolds immediately. I'd say this is about as luck-reliant as the ArchMage battle (the strat shown in this video series anyway), probably not nearly as bad as the Gaist battle where he needs to be blinded with Octopus. Arwan's fully status-protected so you wouldn't pull that off even if you wanted to, but it's just 2-3 turns of combat after the initial power-up so it wouldn't be a good idea to do so anyway.

Next video... Teepo!
