FF Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - Automatic Item Farming Method (AFK Grinding)
Presenting a completely automatic setup for passive farming of items (including stat boosters and scrolls), collectacards, summonstones and experience for the party members involved. After getting the characters set up, all you need to do to carry on with the farm is to repeatedly press Down, Confirm (A / Circle or whatever) every 3 or so minutes while focusing on any other activity of your choice. Ever wanted to grind for stat boosting items but couldn't stand committing your time to something so repetitive? Now you can do it without actually playing the game!
The stage we are going to use for this is Dissidia Series' Dare to Defy. It is one of the stages where you have a boss enemy over and over again; however, unlike similar stages of its kind instead of having to deal triple damage, you incur double the damage instead, no matter the attack. Every time a foe comes in, a myriad of abilities - generic or unique - could activate without any trigger input. As you might gather, this is perfect for automated farming. What we seek is a party that can continue killing the boss Shinryu while also sustaining the incoming damage and not suffering a Game Over. So who's going to be in the party?
Noctis
This one is a given as the lead character. Two characters in the game have Unlimited personal attacks that activate as soon as a Boss enemy appears, and they're from the same game. Noctis and Aranea are the ones I'm talking about. Aranea's Highwind skill targets the entire enemy group for weaker damage and cannot really be counted on to take out the boss repeatedly, though I admit my Aranea is nowhere near star level 9 / 999 strength to know for sure. Noct's Armiger deals high ST damage, which rises with his strength and agility stats.
Besides being lv. 99, you want Noct invested with some star levels - the more, the more reliably you can farm. He'll probably also need the Bravery skill from a Bravery scroll (complete every quest in FF2 or Type-0 series, to give but two examples), and a strong summonstone for augmenting physical damage. Mine is +30% phys damage (15% x 2), and it's possible you could get 40-45% (theoretically at the very least). If your Noct fails to OHKO the boss, add First Strike to start grinding more slowly, but unequip it when you don't need it any more not to clutter up the skill queue. The third skill could be Blink (evade a few attacks) or something like Rare Summoner / Collector. Mystic Aura is considerably more powerful than Bravery, but doesn't activate until halfway through the song.
Materia
One of the two best support units in the game and Spiritus's physical counterpart. Materia's purpose here is twofold - she needs to power up Noctis' Armiger by 1.7x so that it can come close to OHKOing at all, and she also needs Stona to heal stone status whenever it's inflicted. Her third skill is probably going to be a 2nd Bravery to give Noct just enough attack, but if he's already OHKOing and you'd rather survive the stage more reliably equip Elegy to slightly reduce the damage done.
Vanille
For sustain, what better healer can you find? Vanille has the best trio of healing skills in Oerba's Boon, Curaga and Full-Cure, two of which recover 100% HP, but what sets her apart from competitors like Ignis is that her skills have different activation requirements, and the last thing you want to happen is waste healing skills / items by activating two at once when one would be enough.
Gladiolus / Lenna / Cosmos / some others (less recommended)
Vanille's own sustain just isn't cutting it. You want some form of damage reduction or passive regen to further augment the effect and let you survive without. Gladio is hand down the best damage reduction character when playing AFK - his Royal Guard GREATLY reduces all incoming damage and is active from the very start of the stage. He also has Mighty Guard, but that one will activate 1/2 into the song. I usually equip Shell as my 3rd. Gladio also needs less investment than most to cap his HP stat, which you want to survive the stage.
Gladio is the one I first started with, but the one I tend to use more often is Lenna, and not just because I'm a fanboy of old-school FF. Lenna has no DR, but Paeon gets you lost health back throughout the stage, and Curaga & Arise are both very potent healing abilities. I've had a higher success ratio with her for no explicable reason (not sure why Gladio sometimes works and sometimes doesn't).
Other possibilities include Cosmos, Celes, Agrias, Eiko, Y'shtola and Agrias, but beware - it's easier to fail the stage with these, and they also take more resources to be more reliable.
Sometimes Noct "forgets" (unsure why) to use Armiger and the boss stops dying for the rest of the song, so this isn't perfectly reliable. This method can be used to level up the party, but to level others with Noct's huge boss rush exp you'll have to actually play the stage. Ideally, you want to use it to farm stat boosters without playing.
