FF Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - Faris Dual Wield + First Strike builds (Strategy Showcase)
With Theatrhythm Final Bar Line out, everybody is looking for the most optimal team. Clearly, ramming stat boosters into people until they have 999 in their stats, at the very least strength, magic for casters and/or summoners, luck for treasure hunters, specific stats (which may well be HP and luck) to make limit breaks stronger, and also maximising star levels for top performance is the way to go, but many, myself included, are interested in how good units are at lv. 99 (easily attained with 4 runs of a 'double phys damage' stage with both the eggs), no stars and no boosters.
When you begin to compare units, some of them stand out - 2.5x magical damage multiplier on Terra?!! Heavy damage? Massive damage? The words and multipliers all seem very impressive until you realise the attacks in question will only occur once most of the time. It may be inopportune, too, such as "use on the 2nd ability" limit breaks being wasted on pre-boss mooks. And then there's actually getting to the boss before you unload all your protagonist overdrives - if you do it too late, you won't have much time to use your abilities, will you?
There's one source of constant damage in the form of Unlimited use attacks, and that's First Strike. Some of its users may raise their strength to the point they deal more damage with it (Red XIII with Sacrifice), but one user is able to attack twice with any activated physical ability thanks to Dual Wield, and that is unique to Faris from FF5 (the magical equivalent is sort of shared between Exdeath / Exodus, Terra and Vivi, the latter with his personal take on the skill).
This video illustrates some strategies and team composition that work together with this unique character.
0:00 First Strike Galore
The first team utilises not one but four First Strike users. Red XIII may attack once but lands really vicious blows while bolstering the party physicals with his personal, AC!Tifa has high strength and a couple other neat abilities, and Noctis is a special case. He and Aranea hailing from the same title (FF15) offer the same thing First Strike does - unlimited limit break that activates every time a boss enemy appears. Armiger relies on Noctis' strength and agility (if you use boosters, pump str and agi ones into him ASAP after factoring caps and +450 from max star level so that you don't overspend). Noct will be assisting with First Strike and contributing heavy damage during repeated boss fights. Aranea, in contrast, has a multi-target (not always relevant against bosses) strength-based limit and an assortment of ultra-powerful physicals instead of Noct's FS.
Everyone ends up using FS a lot. Is it worth it? Even replaying the video multiple times, I can't quite tell. Would one single FS with 999+ strength be more potent perhaps? The animations may or may not cost us time, and the party does move back and forth when enemy parties die and arrive respectively. idk. But the damage and exp values at the end are very high.
03:33 All-Out Faris Focus
This time everyone tries to power up Faris as much as possible. Materia's Precious Rebellion gives the leader (only) bonus 70% physical ability damage from the get-go, and Garland's Deranged Soul gives everybody a 1.3 multiplier to the same. Red XIII and Materia also add some raw strength boosts to everyone. If I had more Bravery scrolls, I could amplify this with an additional 1.1x increase.
Both First Strike and Firaga Blade will hit like a truck. It's a triumph! This strat may be even more powerful compared to others when stat boosters are involved, as everyone will hover a little over 999 strength, but only Faris will attack twice.
07:19 First Strike into Omnislash Version 5
Faris being supported may turn her into a deadly physical DPS (nigh) soloist, but can she act as a supporter herself? You bet! Her set gives us two skills every time a new wave of enemies comes, and there's one character who could enjoy that a lot. Cloud #2 (Advent Children version) has a limit that is also 'technically' Unlimited, and obscenely powerful, but has a harsh requirement - the party needs to use 22 abilities before then! How do we go about that?
Old TFF Curtain Call players will remember the optimal physical strategy of Added Cut, this time nerfed to be limited to 5 uses per fight. With the addition of Rikku, we have 4 First Strikes and 2 Added Cuts on top of Noct being OP. Cloud the second uses his limit twice in just one song, and I'm pretty sure that's not the game's longest song either.
10:22 Faris the Treasure Hunter
Where else can FS be used? Eureka, farming mobs for treasure chests. Our good friend Noct, and the usual item hunters Zidane and Fran join the party yet again, resulting in almost 20 treasure chests from an average-skill (or low? you decide) player's clear on Expert. Do mind that Zidane had SOME stat boosters invested into his stats. Switch Yuffie in (coincidentally, she has FS too!) if you go for summonstone farming.
