FF9 Tetra Master Arrows Manipulation
Welcome,
The video is about the "preset characteristics of the cards". It shows how it is possible to manipulate to your advantage -particularly in an Arrows Challenge- the characteristics of the cards that you can obtain as treasures in the "field map" (means screens inside towns, airships, or dungeons), or as a "drop" against monsters. The characteristics of the cards refer to their card battle stats, and their combinations of arrows. The latter element is what interests us.
1) The first method (to use in order to obtain cards that can be obtained after loading the game without passing through the world map):
The first part of the video shows that it is possible to manipulate cards' arrows combinations, as long as you are in a battle arena, a "field map" screen, or the title screen, and as long as you do not alter the sequence of the cards characteristics/combinations by entering the world map (the second part of the video that starts at 08:00 deals with the manipulation method involving world map visits), and as long as you do not break/randomize the sequence of your console by entering the Tetra Master screen (by the way, obtaining a card in the world map via a Chocograph also break the sequence).
At 2:58, focus on the combinations which characterize the cards, they are the same as those which characterize the cards at 6:11 after I reset the console, and they will be the same each time I restart this console in particular.
The example shown in this video to illustrate the first mehtod consists of obtaining a Meteor card without arrows. To do this, I determined at first a portion (45 cards) of the "preset sequence of cards" of my console and I noticed that the 45th card of this sequence has the combination without arrow. I restarted then my console and I bought the 44 first cards in Treno (a quick method to get cards in sequence), then after passing through the title screen by using a "soft reset", I loaded a save in Daguereo to obtain a Meteor card. The Meteor card has of course the combination without arrow because the console considers that it is the 45th of the sequence, since going to the title screen, a battle arena or a "field map" screen does not alter or break/randomize the sequence).
If you care about the arrows combinations, I highly recommend to use this first method to get cards that can be obtained (without playing Tetra Master) in an area that includes a save/load point, and that are hard/impossible to obtain via Tetra Master in Disc 4; I recommend for example to use the trick to obtain a Namingway card in Desert Palace before entering Terra, and a Gargant card against Ralvuimago in Disc 2 (requires to try 8 times on average).
Note that triggering a battle in a screen where there is rain in Burmecia seems to break the "Arrows Manipulation" sequence, which means you will not be able to use this first method to obtain an Ironite card from an Ironite monster in Burmecia for example, since Burmecia's Ironites can only be fought in screens where there is rain.
2) The second method (to use in order to obtain cards that cannot be obtained after loading the game without passing through the world map; the method is not as practical as the first one):
The second part (that starts at 08:00) of the video shows how to use at your advantage an "altered sequence". The sequence is altered (but not broken/randomized) each time your enter the world map (remember that OBTAINING a card in the world map or accessing the Tetra Master mode will randomize/break the sequence). As an example, if you buy 3 cards in the Treno card stadium, then you exit Treno to go to the world map, then you return to Treno to buy a card, the arrows combination of the latter will be the same as the arrows combination of the Ozma card that can be obtained in the Chocobo Air Garden after buying 3 cards in Treno, then enterring the world map before getting to the garden. With regards to the example shown in the video, compare the combination of the card shown at 11:00 with the card shown at 14:15.
If you have the luck/patience to spot a workable "altered sequence" in your console, you can use this second method to manipulate the arrows combinations of cards like Fat Chocobo, Ozma and Viltgance for example.
