FFIX Excalibur II Perfect Game (Version X) - 50 Tiamat, Kraken, Lich & The Excalibur II!!!!
Items: Blood Sword (stolen), Genji Helm (stolen), Genji Gloves (stolen), Excalibur II!
After all of that backtracking for the first 6 members of the Nero Family, I can now pick up where I left off and finish off the final 3 Choas Guardians!
Getting to Tiamat encounter-free is a little tougher than before, because now the scene with Dagger is no longer there so now you have to walk the entire screen without a hitch, as the scene would have carried Zidane a few steps forward automatically. Once you have control on the screen with the eye of the Invincible, pick up the Rune Claws and equip them on Amarant! The Kaiser Knuckles are infused with the wind element which heals Tiamat so by simply taking away the elemental attack, he can damage the dragon, although not as much as he normally would. Also remove Zidane's Auto-Life and activate Distract, Devil Killer and MP Attack. Remember to revive everyone with a Phoenix Down and use an Ether on everyone!
Strategy for Tiamat:
Unlike the rest of the enemies in Memoria, Tiamat is not a demon, but a dragon, and Freya is the only one with the Dragon Killer ability, so your damage output per round will be reduced. Fourtunately, Tiamat has a few attacks that are completely harmless depending on who they target. Float and Absorb Magic are obviously free turns, and Absorb Strength would only be bad if it hit Freya. Silent Claw should miss if it is used, and Absorb MP would hurt anybody, but Zidane's MP being sacrificed is the best option. Jet Fire and Twister are instant resets. Just remember to steal the Blood Sword before the dragon screams to his death!
After saving at the hidden save point, just proceed onward until you reach the save orb near the waterfall. Getting there encounter-free is almost impossible (I haven't even gotten close!) due to that LOOOONG walk! Before fighting Kraken, equip Freya and Steiner with the Diamond Gloves, but also give Steiner the Genji Armor, Re-equip Amarant's Kaiser Knuckles, Equip Zidane with the Ribbon, and activate Body Temp for Steiner and Zidane. Revive and restore MP just like before.
Strategy for Kraken:
In my attempts with Kraken, I realized that the tentacles play an important role in the battle, as they give the Kraken access to some of its attacks whenever it acts. The Kraken has a high probablility to counterattack anytime it is targeted, even stealing and with how the party is set up, most of the Kraken's attacks shouldn't be too threatening. Freeze does nothing unless it targets Freya, Ink needs to miss, and Water Gun is only bad against Amarant, but Waterga will do two things that may slow you down. It will heal Zidane due to the Ribbon's water absorbption, therefore unable to participate during Charge! but Amarant does not have any defense against water elementals so he will be knocked out. The best way to keep Kraken from using Waterga excessively is to keep one tentacle alive until Zidane steals the Genji Helmet, then have someone take it out and have Steiner use Charge once Kraken is alone. Each tentacle has 10001 HP so Freya and Amarant can each attack one and Zidane can finish each of them off. Each character during Charge! will attack a random target if more than one exists so if Freya and Amarant attack the tentacle instead of Kraken, you may want to reset. The more counterattacks Kraken gets, the lower your chances of having a fast or even surviving the battle become.
Before saving at the next hidden save point, revive and restore everyone's MP one more time as the last, easiest and fastest chaos guardian battle is next! No equipment changes are needed! Proceed to Lich's chamber.
Strategy for Lich:
There IS NO STRATEGY!!! This battle is ridiculously easy due to Lich having an elemental weakness to both Wind AND Holy!! With all of the attack bonuses that Freya and Amarant have (Enhanced elemental attack, weakness of element, MP Attack, and Devil Killer) they will deal over 9000 if not maximum damage per strike!!! Just two attacks from Freya and Amarant each plus one Charge! will obliterate this final boss, just don't forget the Genji Gloves!!! The battle with Lich is the fastest possible and PERFECT, making this one hell of a way to end the challenge!
I always save before picking up my reward...
Target Time - 11:59:50
Encounters - 1
Let's put my final time into perspective if the 10th Promist Ring detour and the Nero Family Side Quest did not exist. The 10th PR detour took about 22 minutes and the NFSQ was about the same length of time. Also the 2 friendly monsters you would have encountered in the last version were not needed so that's another 3 minutes tops. That's 47 minutes total.
11:18:52 - 47:00 = 10:31:52
Version 9 Adjusted Time - 10 hours 32 minutes!
That is plenty of time to spare!
