Yeah that's it folks, we're just about done with this one challenge in this one game. This upload features all the battles at the point of no return, beginning with Orbonne Monastery and going all the way down to... the depths of Gehenna, or whatever. Up to but excluding Altima (that recording was a bit too long and you're going to see why soon).

So we're at Orbonne, and all maps but one are assassination maps. That's the first map of course.

00:00 Orbonne Monastery

Knights, Archers and Monks seem like such basic classes (Monks less so I suppose), but they're not without their strengths anyway. The archer even has a rare strong bow that you cannot buy.

I field Meli instead of Rafa here because Meli can actually target anything and destroy helm/armour here, while Rafa has no magic outside of her unique gimmicky set that never connects.

Ramza spends some time in the Summoner job because having Lich for some of those endgame bosses would be neat. Oracle's Life Drain is about as valuable as Lich, but neither Ramza nor Rafa managed to get enough JP to learn them. This is because chapters end too quickly.

03:13 Orbonne Monastery II (Rofel)

Rofel's equipment breaks are nasty and I only have JP for Maintenance for one person - Ramza. Which is fine, because Ramza is likely the only one in range of those 3-range breaks on the first turn.

However, this also means we are to take Rofel out before he gets his second turn. Normally you have more than enough firepower to do so, but this is not the case on this run where some of my characters are noticeably inferior to some of the better generic unit builds (Rafa and Malak namely, Meli and Mustadio also kind of).

Since this one is all about throwing everything you've got before Rofel gets his turn, destroys something precious and moves away out of range, probably getting healed and making the battle much longer and more annoying (and probably not impossible to lose - look at all those casters), I remove Mustadio for this battle in favour of both Rafa and Malak to maximise damage.

05:02 Murond Death City (Kletian)

Kletian is the boss this time and this guy approaches the target of his Holy attack from 5 range, because that's the max range of the spell.

Only one side of the map is useful at all - the one with Ramza (I guess some classes like Dancer or Bard could potentially assist the party from the other side, but you can imagine how impossible it is to obtain these classes with the time restraints of my run), so I place Agrias and Malak there to hit Kletian really hard midcharge.

06:24 Lost Sacred Precincts (Balk)

The battle against Balk is by far the hardest, as expected. The boss is basically impervious to damage, shoots from 8 range with powerful magic that can proc for obscene amounts of damage (he combos with his Chemist for occasional turn 1 KOs depending on compat and whether I am able to heal on time), and if you fail to kill him on time, he runs too far away, there's a chance his Chemist fully heals him with X-Potion (he also restores HP as he walks) and when his monsters get close, you might as well say goodbye to your characters.

The key, I suppose, is taking Balk out ASAP and I had a bit of trouble with this. Ramza had 600+ JP as Summoner, letting me learn Lich, and though when Lich fires off Balk's max HP is lower after getting broken by Meliadoul, it still outdamages Ramza's Ramuh (which somehow is the best thing he has this late into the game).

For the victory, I have Ramza, Agrias and Meliadoul all team up to kill Balk ASAP, because the battle will most likely be lost if Balk gets his second turn. Even Mustadio chips in, and it's funny watching how much more powerful Balk's magical counter is.

I win this one just barely after loads of attempts.

08:05 Graveyard of Airships (Hashmalum)

It's time to face Vormav in his Lucavi self. Quake targets lots of characters, and while it's earth-elemental (and therefore can be absorbed with Gaia Gear) he has Melt for fire-elemental damage with the same humongous diameter and about the same damage, so pick your poison.

I decide to go for offensive setups instead (as usual), because the boss targets large groups of characters at any point of the battle and spreading everybody around doesn't quite work because the range is that enormous.

Golem is a big help here, as it forces Hash to go for individual targets and fist them, wasting some time, instead of taking out many people at once. Even then, sometimes Hash just decides to ignore Golem and go for MT damage.

This wasn't easy to win either, but Balk was still more troublesome.

So now only Altima remains. In the next upload, I'll sum up this video series with the final battle, and also show my final equipment and stats.
