Before I describe this battle, I need to utter a few words about the storyline missions I neglected to record.

The reason why I did so wasn't a lack of anything interesting; in fact, all those missions were really intense. The problem is that they were too bloody long. With my fingers on the emulator's turbo button, some battles lasted as long as 1 hour and a half, which translates to over 4 hours of recording! It often took up to 20 minutes just to take out one particularly annoying unit. I know some would want to see how these battles went, but I didn't want to dedicate 20 FFTA vids for just a couple of missions.

One thing I should point out is that units with Reflex and, to a lesser extent, Strikeback are really annoying. The only way available in NENT to deal with the former is Marche's combo. Basically, to get rid of those units, you must Combo, then kill one of your members to get CP, combo again, get another of your guys killed, and so on and so forth. I'm surprised I had the patience to go this far.

Lini could deal unremarkable damage to units with Strikeback with his Ultima move, but had enough MP to do it once (then having to 'wait' for a long time to be able to use it again).

Finally, I reached...

Mateus

I entered the mission on the day Target All was banned so that the zombies wouldn't be able to heal themselves with Flare. Their poisonous area attacks were giving me a lot of trouble, so I had to use a law card to ban Poison.

The mission ends when Mateus falls. However, the zombies are amazingly annoying. Not so much because of their offensive actions (but that doesn't help either), but because NENT party possesses only attacks from the next square and we have no ranged attacks at our disposal yet - meaning that zombies can always conveniently surround Mateus and he's untouchable!

My strategy was to dedicate 3 members to revive the zombies far away from the boss and the other three dealing damage to him. Hardcore FFTA players will recognise Pallanza - a semi-secret character, originally a Gladiator knowing Blitz and Ultima Sword. I switched him to White Monk without hesitation to make him the party's best attacker.

Tossing Phoenix Downs at the zombies does not exactly kill them, but hurts them a lot more than physical attacks do. I found out here that items, when used on zombies, take your Magic Power into account, as Eldena's PD is much stronger than Marche's one (Red Mage and Soldier stats respectively).

I was able to surround Mateus so that he couldn't move and had Pallanza and another Bangaa deal damage to him. It was an epic battle, probably because it's actually two battles in one (Viera & others against the zombies and 2 Bangaa against the Totema).

I was lucky to finish it quickly (well, relatively at least), because my zombie fighting party were getting their asses handed over to them.
