This boss has humongous 22 thousand HP and, while you can always have Relm sketch him in a normal (or not so normal) game, this can't be done here because of the No Specials rule. This means that all that additional health should be reduced the hard way.

Once again, Ultros can be stopped, which would make him really easy. I figured I'd fight him without ever casting the Stop spell though, as that is more fun.

First of all, as much as I regret not buying Strago a second elemental Rod before going to save Relm, I did make sure I have two of each Rod now, because doublewielding those and hoping the spell(s) kick(s) in may result in good damage, even superior to Locke and Terra's -ara magic.

He's weak to fire and lightning. Fira spells cost less MP so I cast these. Strago is in the front row, attacking with both rods. Vanish is a bad idea because when he's been damaged with magic a few times, he'll counter everything with a -aga spell of the element equivalent to the one that's just been cast.

This makes Reflect a must, but I decided against equipping the rings in favour of a more offensive setup. Simply, when the boss enters the counterattack phase, Strago summons Carbuncle which should last until Relm comes in.

Relm, much like Strago, knows no magic yet. She should also be equipped with a Rod in the midst of the battle (can't give her Genji Gloves sadly), and she can act as a healer with the Healing Rod if needed.

Once Ultros runs out of MP, you can't Osmose anything out of him and Locke and Terra become rather useless. They can be equipped with the elemental blades and put into the front row together with the old man and his loli granddaughter but chances are the battle will end before that happens.

If Tentacle is used, it's most likely a game over, but he can fortunately be killed before that happens. Same with Reflect, which will probably need to be recast later on. Slow helps a lot, and it's a good idea to cast it again after he hastes himself.
