FFVIA LLNSNI Part XVI: Coliseum - Turning Ragnarok into Lightbringer
23Since I got the airship, some boss battles have been fought but none of them were particularly worth sharing.
Valigarmanda is completely neutralised by equipping Flame Shields on everybody (very easy to get in the Coliseum), Behemoth can be imped and his second form can be killed with a simple Raise spell, and the 2nd & 3rd battles against Humbaba aren't too different from the 1st.
Somebody requested that I show something from the Coliseum and I could never find an interesting battle.
In an LLG, most possible Coliseum battles are possible only because many enemies you face are vulnerable to instant death attacks. Bring in somebody like Setzer doublewielding Viper Darts, and keep restarting until he managed to get the ID effect to appear before he is killed himself.
Daedalus is a different enemy as he is still vulnerable to instant death attacks but at the same time he is undead, meaning attacking him with Viper Darts will make him reappear with full health.
So I send in Mog to deal with the bastard. Perfect defence takes care of physical attacks, Flame Shield makes Flare Star and the fire-elemental counters void and the Reflect Ring protects from Flare. I should've protected Mog from Blaster as well, giving him the relevant relic, but I didn't want him to run out of MP so I gave him a Celestriad instead.
Celestriads are stolen by equipping Thief's Knives and attacking the big birds in the Phoenix Cave. I got 4 of those, then got Locke and got the hell out. Stupid inescapable Face / Phase encounters...
I'm still unable to get a Magus Rod in the Coliseum. Tonberry counters everything with Knife and Step Mine, and there's nothing that can stop the latter. Even teaching the Coliseum fighter Reraise achieves nothing, as the character is not controlled by me and hence can't fight properly.
Tonberry can be imped apparently, but up to this moment I haven't been able to get it cast.
Still trying, Magus Rod is a great weapon for Strago, Relm and Gogo and it wouldn't hurt to have more than one.
