FFVIA LLNSNI Part XIV: Tentacles
First battle faced after getting the useful Fenrir Magicite and it turns out that we can't use it here. The beast demands no less than 70 MP to be summoned, and we can't equip a Gold Hairpin to make it possible because both the Reflect Ring and the Hermes Sandals are compulsory.
Auto-Reflect is a must as we don't want to be quickly killed by an MT Bio spell (Poison is undesirable too, to a lesser extent), and Auto-Haste is a necessity, as without it we'll be grabbed and gang raped within a couple of turns.
So no Gold Hairpin, and no Fenrir. Golem should work, but with four of them attacking its effect will fade too soon.
Edgar joins just during this battle so there's no opportunity to change his equipment. Spells will kill him, and he can be grabbed. He won't live for too long, but he does know the main spells so I have him poison three tentacles out of four with a Bio spell, opening the fight.
One tentacle cannot be poisoned. It is vulnerable to the Stop status however, so it must be cast immediately so that it is silent while we're dealing with the other three.
All tentacles are vulnerable to Slow but casting the spell will also slow down poison's effect. Still, it relieves the damage dealt to us and we once again have no means of healing.
Things can get dangerous when Golem no longer works, as the battle does go on for a while due to the constant need to Osmose more MP.
Edgar just happens to find himself with 0 MP once revived (when it's safe enough for him to be present to be of any use), so I cast Berserk on him and have him attack in auto-pilot with an Enhancer in his left hand.
