-My two favorite things about FFXIV holiday events in comparison with World of Warcraft, my previous main MMO (which I still like as a game):
1) Changes up the stories every time. Always a reason to play and celebrate!
2) Short. I did this within an hour, and it only took that long cause I redid the event and read out the text slowly. No need to redo stuff over and over and over.
-I'm a big fan of the Gruffs. Their characters were light-hearted but still legitimately trying to steal souls. A perfect combo for this belated holiday.
-I also like that we didn't seem to get any real explanation of who the Gruffs were in the cosmology of FFXIV, as far as I could understand. It's not necessary. They're just vague ghosty soul-eaty monsters looking to summon some fiends for fun!
No need to worry about where they are in the context of Ascians and whether they're originally from the 13th. The instance has clown wraiths because it's a cool idea to have clown wraiths.
-Also interesting that the Gruffs have never experienced the Night of Devilry themselves, or at least that's my reading of it from Mama Gruff's line at 14:36.
-The cosmetics also rock. Frigging love the ragged clown aesthetic. Fits perfectly on my reaper.
