-This particular session undercut my expectations in two ways:

1) I was SO SURE for most of this quest that we'd find the mother dead or tempered. Games often get credit for subverting happy expectations with a devastating twist. These almost feel rarer, where I'm expecting something brutal and end up with something lovely.

2) I had assumed the imperial royal family would treat their servants badly. But nope! At least, Vipsania seemed to trust them, and the royal bodyguard took seriously his duty of not just guarding the royals themselves, but the whole household.

This doesn't make imperial rulers good or anything. Almost by definition, someone in charge of an Empire who isn't actively trying to dismantle it is... not great. But the royal bodyguards are NOT in charge of it, and they do seem to embody noble qualities of determination, loyalty, and sacrifice for others.

-All that said... I'm scared about what the follow-up quest about the dad will lead to. Again, I'm betting out the outset that he's not going to be hale and hearty.

-Despite all the death and chaos and tragedy, no tragedy is greater than getting your whole board flipped by a combo in Triple Triad.
