0The game has a unique mechanic called motion slide combo system, which gives players the freedom to come up with their own combos. So, any move can be cancelled into any other move.
However, using the same move twice within a combo string will cause your character to “overheat”, leaving them momentarily unable to attack.
Getting hit while in the heat state will stun your character and leave them open for further attacks.
The system simultaneously allows newcomers to play an effective offensive game, penalizes button mashing and enables all kinds of high-level combos.
The control scheme is similar to Virtua Fighter‘s, with only three buttons: punch, kick and evade.
The evade button can be used to perform sidesteps and other maneuvers in conjunction with the directional buttons.
Furthermore, performing a sidestep right before an enemy attack connects also functions as a simple parry technique.
The game includes eight playable characters from the start, seven of which have two additional fighting styles (based on the fighting styles of other characters):
Shiroh Karasuba (uses Pi-Kua Chang for main style, Karate and Street Fight for sub-styles)
Kaede Minamoto (uses Aiki Jiujitsu for main style, Pi-Kua Chang and Taekwondo for sub-styles)
Mark Douglass (uses Street Fight for main style, Pro Wrestling and Martial Arts for sub-styles)
Bernhard Sheler (uses Karate for main style, Aiki Jiujitsu and Pi-Kua Chang for sub-styles)
Hornet Grant (uses Pro Wrestling for main style, Taekwondo and Street Fight for sub-styles)
Selene Rambert (uses Martial Arts for main style, Pro Wrestling and Karate for sub-styles)
Sanson Victoria (uses Taekwondo for main style, Martial Arts and Aiki Jiujitsu for sub-styles)
The game is worth tracking down for serious fighting game fans,even for historical reason.
