Single Crystarium, No Accessory Upgrades, No Ultimate Weapons challenge.

Hope - Airwing - Silver Bangle x2 (I think this was correct, not quite sure)

This is the most difficult boss so far, by far.

Aster has an attack pattern during the 1st 50% of his HP, he'll start with Effoflerence or whatever followed by 2 punching combos then the exploding thing it shoots from its top then his exploding fire/lightning buff thingy, with knowing this pattern then you can know when to heal or when to wait it out to avoid wasting items, unless you don't care about wasting them.

The 1st 50% of his HP isn't too bad when you know his attack pattern, if you don't care about the items then it's even easier because you can just spam Potions, the same could be said when he goes into uber mode during his last bit of HP though but you would waste alot of Potions. Buff up as com/syn then stay as rav/rav and keep using those Potions whenever you need to.

After he hits 50% HP then you want to summon next time he staggers, I found it best to summon just before they stagger. With the summon stay as rav to build up the chain gauge then when the chain gauge deplets to 50% go into gestalt, use the up and A attack then do the side + A attack 3 times and repeat for massive damage, make sure to use Zantetsuken? before the gauge depletes if it depletes before you can use all attacks. Hopefully that will finish him off, if not prepare to use alot of Potions unless he's a few hits away from death because he gets ALOT harder than he was at the start.

Why take this challenge?

It's very challenging and doesn't require much grinding/farming, in fact gil farming isn't required, I never did it at all and only did a bit of CP grinding when I got to chapter 11.

Recomended Roles:

To clarify on single crystarium - This means you can only level 1 type of role, recommended roles are as follows:
Lightning - Com (Highly recommended)
Snow - Sen (100% must have)
Sazh - Syn (Could be changed - It isn't a must have but Haste is great until/if Hope learns at chapter 12 it if you take him the Syn route)
Hope - Syn (Highly recomended but may be able to be changed only for med)
Vanille - Sab (100% needed)
Fang - Com (Highly recommended)

Really Sazh or Hope are the only ones you may want to change (1 of them definately needs to be Syn though), the others are highly recommended though, Vanille needs Sab no matter what and same goes to Snow's Sen.

For those not sure about Sazh's and Hope's Syn's then Sazh gets Haste, Bravery and Faith early and he also gets En-spells (Enfire, Enblizzard, etc.) which are unique to him, Hope gets Protect and Shell early and Bar-spells (Barfire, Barthunder, etc.) are unique to him, each character learns the none unique spells come chapter 12.
