Final Fantasy III/VI (SNES) Intro and Brief Gameplay Demonstration
As implied in the title of this video, only the intro of the game is shown, with some editing, followed by a quick montage of some of the first battles. This was made to be used in a review I made on this French site here: http://www.geekmodeblog.com/2009/04/final-fantasy-iiivi-snes.html#complet This video is also supposed to give you a general idea of this game's story and gameplay, which could lead you to try it, I hope! When it was released in North America on the SNES, this game was called Final Fantasy III since it was the third game in the series that we received. In Japan, it was in fact the sixth Final Fantasy game leading to this naming confusion that was made very clear when they released Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation, following what we thought was Final Fantasy III. The re-releases of this game have been renamed Final Fantasy VI, the original title, in order to clear this confusion. The story goes that a war was fought long ago, with the use of magic. In the end, the art of magic was lost, but now, a mad Emperor named Gestahl plans on reviving magic through the use of genetic engineering, which could lead to catastrophic results. You follow Terra, which was strangely born with the power of magic, and her companions in this adventure to stop the Emperor who is slowly conquering their world. Some of the themes encountered in the game are quite serious, such as suicide and teen pregnancy. The battle system is the same since Final Fantasy IV, the Active Time Battle, but now you can attach an Esper (summon, magical creature) to each character to get some bonuses at level ups and to learn magic. The class for each character is predetermined and they each have a unique ability, for instance, the character named Locke is a thief, he has the Steal ability. Another feature that was added is the Desperation Attack, a stronger attack unique to each character (a precursor to Limit Breaks, as seen in Final Fantasy VII and later games in the series) which can happen automatically when you Fight with Critical HP (you can go through the whole game without seeing one. It's much less common than in later games). With nice graphics, an incredible music score with many themes including one for each character and a deep story combined with a memorable cast of characters and a solid battle system, this is one of the best games in the series as well as one of the greatest RPGs ever.
