Part: 2 of 6

After finishing a slide puzzle in record time, escaping the Marsh Cave with the crown (very lucky), and getting utterly destroyed by Astos, Asps and team decide to spend some quality time at the peninsula of power to gain levels and cash for gear and supplies. Will they be able to handle it though? Not really. This was a very tedious process of trying to find a suitable place to gain experience without dying or taking an eternity. This video is all grinding so that it can be easily skipped but there were a few highlights I guess.

Here are some highlights:

5 minutes - This was proving to be too much of a hassle. My new plan was to get three characters poisoned and killed off so my remaining character would get four times the exp. Since you cannot get into battles on the seaport tiles, I paced around there for a bit until everyone who was poisoned was left with 1HP.

11 minutes 40 seconds - I actually didn't know that poison could kill you in battle. Still learning things about this game. But the big experience reward came right after so the new plan is to fight with a solo Thief for a while. What could possibly go wrong?

1 hour, 3 minutes, 20 seconds - This was probably the dumbest battle out of all of my playthroughs so far. This enemy can only stun you and cannot do damage. Was it a softlock? I eventually had to reset.

1 hour, 20 minutes, 20 seconds - Well I got Shij to level 9 so I decided to take another stab at the peninsula of power with all four characters to see if he could help carry the team.

1 hour, 51 minutes - No dice. At this point I decided to give up on the peninsula of power and try another strategy.

2 hours, 28 minutes, 50 seconds - With Shij at level 9 and the rest of the team at level 7 I tried the peninsula yet again. Finally! My first win! Two ZomBULLs. Shij didn't get the experience but that's actually kind of good because the other three got a better opportunity to catch up (even though none of them actually gained any levels from it).

2 hours, 41 minutes - I took a break here. Such a tedious playthrough so far.

2 hours, 50 minutes, 30 seconds - Time to try yet another approach. Similar to the peninsula of power, there is one tile on the shore southwest of Astos' castle that contains enemies from the area around Melmond, such as Shadows. These enemies are slightly more powerful than the ones you can normally fight at this time, but are not as tough as the foes at the peninsula. Interestingly, the tile that contains the Melmond enemies is the one on the shore, but you have to be stepping OFF of that tile in order to get the right encounters. This mechanic also explains why you can get the higher level enemies at the peninsula by stepping south from the tip of the peninsula, but you only get the low level encounters if you walk horizontally on those same tiles. Basically, the encounter for the tile occurs when you step off of it, not when you step on it.

Unfortunately the Shadows have like an 80% chance to strike first or something, so the battles take longer.

3 hours, 14 minutes, 30 seconds - The scimitar is weaker than the sabre but it gives a higher hit percentage. In this game, you get an additional attack for every 32 points of hit percentage, so sometimes if a weapon is weaker but will give you just enough extra hit percentage to grant an additional hit, that can be the better way to go. That's the plan for Astos since it will double the amount of hits, therefore doubling the potential for critical hits.

3 hours, 40 minutes, 10 seconds - You don't take poison damage on the water, but they change your party around after every battle which can be extremely annoying.

The rest of this video is just leveling up until everyone can equip the scimitar and gain an additional hit. This means a potential eight hits per round against Astos instead of four, all with a chance of landing a critical hit. Will this be enough to finally beat Astos? I would hope so.
