Final Fantasy (NES) - Four Thief Casual Playthrough (Part 4)
Game: Final Fantasy
Platform: NES
Completed: June 13, 2022
Rules: Beat the game with a team of four Thieves. Promoting to Ninjas is allowed.
Part: 4 of 6
After completely forgetting about the Castle of Ordeals, Asps and team foolishly amble into the Ice Cave. It's fine.
Here are some highlights:
3 minutes, 30 seconds - Even though this battle is forced, you can actually run from it and all other forced encounters. You can also refight them if you want.
3 minutes, 50 seconds - Nice Frost D. battle here.
6 minutes - There is a forced encounter with FrWolves there so I passed up the money in that last chest.
Right after there's a battle with a FrGIANT. For whatever reason you can never run from this battle.
14 minutes, 30 seconds - If you take the time to speak to everyone in this game, you actually get hints to pretty much everything you need to do. Some hints only happen if certain parts of the game are completed though.
16 minutes, 40 seconds - Here's another one of those good contextual clues.
18 minutes, 20 seconds - There are actually no enemies in this desert unless you happen to touch the grassy areas.
30 minutes, 30 seconds - I don't think I ever saw what Bahamut says if you speak to him before being promoted. Here it is.
34 minutes, 40 seconds - the guy who stands in the entrance says you need the crown to proceed and then disappears when you talk to him. I was curious if you needed to talk to him or not but it appears that you don't. Also...the crown? That's a strange requirement since there's no way to get to this point without it and it was already used for something else. This must have been a mistake. I end up speaking to him later and it seems to change nothing.
44 minutes - Crown guy vanishes.
1 hour, 3 minutes - Can go above waterfall for no reason. Also used TWO cabins by mistake.
1 hour, 19 minutes - Bat glitch
1 hour, 33 minutes - Check that out. The guy who was a higher level before promotion (Shij) had less magic charges.
1 hour, 41 minutes, 30 seconds - These bottom volcano tiles do nothing I guess. It kind of makes sense because it looks like the first volcano area is supposed to indicate that you entered through the top of the volcano anyways. The lava tiles cause 1HP worth of damage to your entire team per step. Which is great! I would much rather take 1HP worth of damage over a random encounter that takes forever and causes even more damage, and it turns out that there are no random encounters on these tiles. Therefore I stick to walking on them when I can.
1 hour, 54 minutes - Free Red D. battle here.
1 hour, 56 minutes, 50 seconds - Gotta perform the door glitch right on the ORB before Kary for no reason.
Right after we get a damageless Kary fight with the use of HOLD! The Ninjas are certainly showing their potential now.
2 hours, 7 minutes - Killing KARY wakes this guy up for his valuable clue.
2 hours, 12 minutes, 10 seconds - The airship normally cannot land on sand, but it's strangely able to land on the sand that has the caravan. If you buy the bottle and use it, the caravan is no longer available (which would make sense as there shouldn't be another bottle for sale) but you can actually buy multiple bottles thereby wasting copious amounts of money. It doesn't seem to change anything in your inventory and once you use one, they are all gone. Well that's pointless. I didn't demonstrate that here since I was broke because I bought a copy of Panic Restaurant for the NES.
2 hours, 24 minutes, 30 seconds - If you examine this door it tells you that it's locked by the mystic key. That's strange. It's required that you have the key at this point.
3 hours, 12 minutes - Well that was a ridiculous battle.
3 hours, 16 minutes, 30 seconds - Walk through this strip of water and then notice that the area to the south is the other side of the peninsula of power that contains the same enemy set that was used for grinding levels in part 2. This changes nothing in your life.
3 hours, 20 minutes - It's such a strange design choice to have so many houses without doors. Why did they do that? It was like that in Provoka as well. Right after that, you can see how Lefein actually wraps around. The sections that take you out of the town seem kind of odd as well. I actually saw something similar in the waterfall cave but it doesn't look as bizarre.
3 hours, 24 minutes, 20 seconds - For some reason this little section of grass below the Mirage Tower only contains imps. It's like a reverse peninsula of power. Very good.
