Final Treasure [ファイナルトレジャー] Game Sample - Android/iOS
Final Treasure (ファイナルトレジャー) is a very interesting mobile game from "Jena"...taking one look at Jena's portfolio online, Final Treasure seems to be quite a departure from what they normally do and it just stands out from their other works, at least to me anyway. Even though Famitsu's "app" division covered this game (as well as another page, "Tabroid"), Final Treasure has few downloads for a free game, and the game has pretty much NO ADS from what I've seen...maybe one on occasion??? I can't even remember, which is a good thing in a way...so is Final Treasure just not interesting to warrant a download, or is it one of those games that just needs increased exposure so people can dig it? Read below, good readers...read below!
For a mobile game, Final Treasure is actually quite clever and is an unorthodox blend of genres, making for a game that I will not forget, simply because I haven't really played too many games like it. However, even though I say that, Final Treasure is also a GOOD game too. FT is a blend of pinball (yes, pinball), puzzle (create chains and combos and strategies for the highest score), and...RPG?????? If those three genres sound bizarre when combined, that's because they should...but interestingly enough, Final Treasure pulls off such a combo, even despite the "limitations" that mobile games seem to have, proving that if one is creative, simply "tapping" or "swiping" your phone is enough.
The most broad and general story I can give you for the game is that you start alone as a guy named Leon (Reon) who is investigating different ruins in search of a fabled treasure. Along the way, he meets different characters (party members like an RPG) who he happens to know (the first being the gun toting Emi, who can put severe hurt on bosses weak against her element of lightning) and as you explore and set your friends straight, they join your cause. So the game is an RPG because you get different characters, right? Well, naturally, it isn't quite THAT simple...
The characters are not merely cosmetic; they have different "deathblows" (or special attacks, whatever you want to call them) with different properties, different strengths and different weaknesses, as well as different "elements" (light, fire, water, lightning, wind). Also, you can buy and power up different weapons, that have different attack and defense values, as well as different deathblows that consume different amounts of MP...now, I know what you might be thinking...how are these things even IN a game that has a sort of pinball quality to it???
It is easier to watch the video to get an understanding, as I may not fully be able to explain it with YT's description field, but basically, you start at the top of the screen and you can "scan" the whole stage from top to bottom to think of the best way to proceed to the bottom. Different deathblows may help you set up different "chains" and get bigger score bonuses, and the less turns you spend to get to the bottom, the more turns you have to fight the boss that sits on the bottom of each stage. For a while, the game seems really easy and the bosses are puny, but before you know it, bosses get strong, weapons NEED to be powered up, and you really need to scan the stages to know the best characters to use and when.
Each character has special skills that help in different situations. Leon, for example, can gain extra distance with his sword attacks to launch himself at objects with added "bounce time"; Emi is less effective for added bounce time because she fires a gatling shot straight ahead while generally staying still. For this reason, Emi is better for some bosses, though you have to aim her shots carefully. However, you can't use Leon for every situation because the puzzle elements of the game forbid it...Watch the video and you might get what I am saying, as I will soon run out of typing space and need to mention a few other things.
You can repeat stages to get items that help power up equipment (as well as equipment and "tickets" that help you win random items) as well as give you experience points needed to level up your team. Unlike some games (I'm looking at YOU, Seven Knights...) that are REALLY rigged in the mobile market because they want you to pay for stuff, in my personal experience, Final Treasure is very fair; you can get rares even with the common tickets at a pretty reasonable rate, and the game doesn't feel like it is forcing me to pay for rares by artificially dropping the rare item rate to bats*** low percentages. The visuals are decent and the music is pretty nice! Check FT out at:
