Fire Emblem Engage: Can great combat overcome horrible story?
5As a big Fire Emblem fan, I was excited for Fire Emblem Engage. The game oozed style with its graphics, always had some great combat, and showed it can have a darker story after Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Yet, after finishing the game, Engage is unfortunately, a mixed bag. Many fans were expecting this game to follow up on Three Houses, the last mainline entry in the series.
Yet, while the game’s combat and tactics is great and actually improves upon the strategy in Three Houses, Engage’s story and characters are quite bad. In fact, Engage’s story is so horrible that it’s been criticized heavily by both fans and game reviewers.
With that said, is Engage worth playing? Does its great combat and strategy overcome its lackluster story and characters? Let’s delve in!
Note: I played Engage without any DLCs on my first playthrough.
