Trails into Reverie is finally here. The big payoff after playing nine games in The Legend of Heroes series. This game is that epic conclusion us fans have been waiting for.

And what a payoff it is.

Developed by Falcom and published by NIS America in the West, Trails into Reverie is a three-year wait for overseas fans to play the game.

Trails into Reverie can be considered both the Trails of Cold Steel V and Crossbell III sequel. The game follows three main protagonists: Rean, Lloyd, and a new protagonist named C.

Throughout their adventures, you’ll visit familiar places in Erebonia, Crossbell, and a few other places. Players will also get to see a slew of familiar faces from the nine games, as there’s a staggering 51 playable characters by the end game.

The new protagonist, C, and this story path’s new characters are a breath of fresh air to the series. C’s story is so good that I would say it’s one of the strongest narratives in the entire Legend of Heroes franchise.

While Trails into Reverie is an epic JRPG and a must-play for both fans and JRPGers, I do say this with one caveat. Do not play this game as a newcomer to the series. You’ll be utterly confused if you jump into this game as your first game.

At the very least, start with Trails from Zero instead. It’s a solid game and you’ll have a blast with the Crossbell crew.

But for people ready to dive into Trails into Reverie, I can’t wait for you to play it. Let me know your take in the comments below!

(Note: A special thanks goes out to NIS America, who provided an advanced game review copy weeks before the actual release of the game. We’re truly honored to cover the game and hope the series gets a lot more exposure in the west.)
