Here I play the DLC for Three Houses. I bought this during the middle of my Golden Deer run, but I didn't want to play it until after I was finished with it. In this DLC, you don't have any of the usual monastery mechanics and you have a preset team that can only level up to get stronger. Skills, class mastery, supports, etc, none of those increase here so your options are limited.

That's the biggest contributor to why this is ACTUALLY hard on Hard, as opposed to the base game being a cakewalk on Hard. You're also bound to be unfamiliar with a lot of these units if you haven't played every route yet, which can stop you from taking advantage of what all they can really do. One of these stages basically demands you use the Retribution gambit for example, but I never touched that in the base game because I didn't need to (and I think it's a bit cheap) but I'll get into that when the stage comes up.

Our party for this is

Byleth
Edelgard
Dimitri
Claude
Linhardt
Ashe
Hilda

They start in what you could consider their official classes but you can actually change them around a bit to whatever you see fit. I much prefer characters having classes that are theirs, so I don't ever do so. Makes it feel more like the older FEs for me. Also, normally, there's no way to ever have Edelgard and Hilda on the same team so it's nice to have this where you can actually use them both.

This team is meant to give you a fair balance of just about everything you need, but it's a bit lacking. We'll get 4 more characters later to add to this, but only after we beat them in this stage.

We essentially have 4 bosses to fight, the new DLC characters added for Cindered Shadows. Balthus, Hapi, Constance, and Yuri. Balthus is the closest and can actually do a real number on anyone he attacks. Edelgard, Dimitri, Byleth, maybe Hilda are the only ones that can probably survive a round with him. But he has no ranged option, so you can just pick him off from a distance.

Then there's Hapi, who will just summon a monster out of nowhere before running off into a room and locking the door behind her. It's actually a monster I forgot was in the game, I never encountered it outside of here and the Golden Deer route. Hapi herself is a mounted mage who can attack you beyond those walls. Ashe can either pick her off from afar with Deadeye (but be warned about burning through his arrows if you do so) or he can circle round and pick the lock thanks to his personal skill. I believe Claude can get in range and Canto out pretty safely as well. If you get up close to Hapi, a physical fighter will tear through her.

Constance and Yuri are pretty close to one another, with Constance going on the move first. Claude or Ashe should be able to take her down no problem as she's a flying spellcaster. The real issue with this stage is when Yuri decides to charge with his surrounding allies. Here's where you want to utilize all the gambits you have to hinder their approach and whittle them down. Yuri's fast and even has access to Nosferatu, so be careful if you let him attack.
