Your friendship with this friendly mammal has gone a long way, and greedy people have successfully captured your friend. Time to rescue your favorite water dolphin named Fred! Your will be using a small boat equipped with a machine gun. Your mission now is to rescue Fred from the enemies. You need to reach the last checkpoint to finish the game. Shoot all the jetskis, cruisers, and choppers or else they will shoot you down. A certain amount of money will be given to you depending on the distance traveled. Use that money to upgrade your ship's damage and health.

Overview:

If you’re wondering who Fred is then he’s an adorable dolphin. The main character whose name we’ll never know found Fred as baby dolphin. The character himself seemed to be an infant when he found baby Fred. The two grow up together and the main character got old. One day he sees Fred getting captured by either smugglers or just regular fishermen. Your goal now is to save Fred from these ruthless dolphin catchers with your array of battle ships.

Aesthetics:

The game’s visuals sport a classical and typical cartoon or comic book style art. The visuals are colorful and adequately drawn. They even had a short cinematic if you could call it that of how his owner met Fred and how the two got together in their long lasting friendship. The in game visuals are good but nothing to special of course. The music is also good especially when you’re in the game. The music is a high adrenaline soft rock. It puts you in a state of hyperactivity as you get to save Fred. When you press the pause button to stop the game the music mellows down giving you some time to reorganize.

Gameplay:

Free Fred is an automatic 2D shooter. You control your boat from left to right as it automatically fires its ammunition. Your objective is to get to the end zone which is divided into different segments. Your boat maybe automatically shooting but you need to aim the gun as well. You can aim the gun in all directions from the front to the top and to the back. The only place you can’t aim is below you but then again there are no enemies from underneath. Before you can get to the end zone there are a lot of enemies and obstacles that are on your way. You may realize that when you’re just starting, you tend to get defeated very easily even before you arrive at the first point. That’s why the more distance you cover, the more money you get. You can use that money to buy upgrades for your boat later on. In order for you to get ahead of the area, you need to upgrade your boat’s weapons and HP. You will also get to use and upgrade boats later on. You will get these boats when you arrive at specific areas of the game. You will have unlimited continues anyway but the problem is that you always start back at the beginning every time you die. Make sure to get all the boats and upgrade them as best as you can so that you can get to the end zone and meet up with Fred. The game does start out as somewhat challenging. You’ll die a lot of the times when you’re just beginning. The more you upgrade your boats the further you get ahead of the game. You’ll really need fast hands if you want to defeat all the enemies on the screen. It’s difficulty is like those old games back in the day.
