Freedom Planet 2 is a 2D Sonic like game, but with nicer graphics that the Sega Megadrive/Genesis was capable off. I also like the sprite change from the first game. In Freedom Planet 1 the character sprites looked like, that they came straight from Sonic 3, here they look more like MegaMan X6 sprites.
Speaking of the character spites, they are nicely animated, for the moveset, but also for the cutscenes, even if some animations are a bit over the top.

The levels are complex, with multiple routes to go and you can usually go fast without the fear to fall into a trap or pit. You might encounter enemies, but they only hurt you with their attacks. Touching them doesn't deal damage to you, except they look like, that they would damage you on contact. So overall the level design is great and it doesn't rely on cheap tricks, that you might encounter in some Sonic levels. At least i didn't encounter such instances.

When it comes to fighting the enemies, Freedom Planet is different from Sonic. Jumping on the enemies does nothing, you have to directly attack them, with your different attacks. Regular attacks, are lining up for combos, or a special attack that needs to recharge, but recharges quickly.
You can pick 1 of the 4 characters and they have different attacks, which changes the way, you play the game.
