Game & Watch Gallery 2: Chef - Modern
A quick gameplay round of the modern version of Chef, my favorite game in this collection, on hard mode in Game & Watch Gallery 2 for the Nintendo Game Boy Color.
In Chef, the player must bounce various foods into the air to avoid letting them hit the floor. Each food that hits the floor counts as a miss, and three misses ends the game.
In the modern version, players control Princess Peach with Yoshi following behind her. Pressing the A Button will make Peach turn around, allowing her to juggle closer foods easily. Yoshi will eat any food that falls behind the Princess, which acts a bit of a safety net and also provides a means to earn bonus points. When the A Button is pressed to turn Peach around, Yoshi will jump to the side which her back is currently facing.
After a few bounces with the frying pan, the food will become cooked (signified by a darker color) which can then be fed to Yoshi for a bonus. Bouncing the food too long will cause them to be over-cooked, resulting in a blackened color and lower point value. Burnt food can also be bounced until they eventually disintegrate into ash.
Feeding Yoshi enough food will eventually cause him to lay an egg. Continuing feeding him will make the egg hatch and replace the current Yoshi with a baby, and reward the player with a large bonus. Feeding the baby will cause it to grow and start the whole cycle over.
Like all other modernized Game & Watch games, a heart will be awarded at specific point totals that can clear away one miss.
