Statistics revealed that by 2030, about 85 million jobs will remain unfilled globally due to skill shortages resulting in a loss of US$8.5 trillion.
This is a wake up call for Nigeria as it has a large, youthful and skillful population that can take advantage of this to significantly benefit the economy.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between Lab Four and the National Talent Export Programme, NATEP in Abuja, Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment, Doris Anite says Nigeria has the potential to provide high quality talent for the global service export and outsourcing industry.
She said NATEP is a key national initiative that will position Nigeria as a leading global hub for service exports, talent sourcing and talent exports.
The Minister also noted that the jobs generated through the partnership have the potential to annually attract up to $1.2 billion into the Nigerian economy through remuneration to the employed persons, in addition to about $60 million dollars that it will provide to develop the BPO ecosystem.
Some stakeholders also spoke on the significance of the programme to the nation's economy.
It is expected that with the full implementation of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration's National Talent Export Programme, the country's unemployment gap would be breached significantly.
