This is a playthrough using Gouten in the SNES game Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen. Read on below for more information...

Gouten is a special hidden boss in single-player mode that can be fought against by having the game set on Expert difficulty and meeting specific conditions. It is an unlockable playable character via the use of an input code, however it can only be used in Vs Game mode.

===== HOW TO UNLOCK GOUTEN =====

On the main title screen where is says "Push Start Button!", input the following code:

Hold [L] + [R], then press Up, Left, Right, Down, [Y], [X], [B], [A]. If you've done it right, you'll hear a roar to confirm it.

Gouten will now be available in Vs Game mode. This also unlocks Super Mechagodzilla as well.

===== ABOUT GOUTEN =====
Gouten is a ship with a drill on the front of it. It is also armed with laser cannons, as well as being able to fire missiles, generate electric fields and spray jets of steam. In this game, the ship is also capable of burrowing into the ground and then emerging up as a 'jumping strike' attack.

The ship is originally from a film called Atragon, which is a Japanese film of the science fiction genre, released in late 1963. Regarding Godzilla, the ship is reportedly seen in the 2004 film Godzilla: Final Wars, where the ship was called "Atragon" instead.

Gameplay-wise, Gouten is quite a cheap character to use... being a "flying" character, it plays very differently to the other characters (bar Mothra), it's almost like a horizontal spaceship shoot-em-up character in a fighting game. Despite the laser projectile moves being very good in both Modes, they do have some delay when performed and when recovering, meaning you cannot go crazy with it. The Steam special move in the Assault Mode is probably one of it's best moves, but the charging time is too long for it.

Damage infliction also tends to be low, and movement of the ship is somewhat slow (when not using the Dash) and unresponsive. It seems that the CPU-controlled opponents on the Normal and Expert difficulty levels have been programmed to deal with Gouten, so unless you play cheap by keeping away and spamming lasers and the close-up drills, you will have a hard time against the CPU.

===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION =====

---- On Gouten's Wrath meter/gauge, the serpent coiled around it is called Manda, which is a Toho monster who appears in the film Atragon as well as a few Godzilla films.

---- The ship is also known as Gotengo.

---- Despite normally being non-selectable in single-player mode, it is possible to complete the game with it in this mode without any problems. Surprisingly, it also has an ending image as well... which suggests that it may have been originally planned to be selectable in single-player mode.

---- As it isn't selectable in single-player mode, some minor glitches can occur when he is highlighted on the character select screen.

---- The game is known as Godzilla: Monster War in the West and Europe.

---- The North American version of the game was cancelled and never released. It was called Godzilla: Destroy all Monsters.

===== ABOUT GODZILLA KAIJUU DAIKESSEN =====
This is an excellent fighting game on the SNES... the graphics and animation are good, and the gameplay is solid. All the characters have a lot of special moves as well as their Holds and Super moves. As the game's characters are monsters, their "attack styles" will take some getting used to... especially if you're used to Street Fighter II style fighters.
