We're back with more Golden Axe Returns! Last time I mentioned the three remaining characters were one I loved, one I hated, and one that was just fine, and Trix is.... just fine :) He lives up to his name, that's for sure, as he IS quite 'tricky' to play.

Trix has the unique gimmick of being able to turn most weapons into traps, and in some cases, can even pick some up and place them exactly where he wants. This is a fantastic idea, however I must admit, it feels poorly executed in places. The best way I can really describe the main issue I seem to have with his traps is that their hitboxes feel like they 'turn on and off' at random. You'll see many times in the playthrough enemies will walk RIGHT THROUGH the trap without taking a hit from it, sometimes many at all once, and other times, everything that touches it gets hit. It seems purely random whether or not the traps will actually hit anything, making them extremely unreliable. Given Trix can only wield three weapons, it's imperative that his traps (especially the ones he can place himself) are useful. I tried to use them in intelligent ways throughout the playthrough, but a lot of times it felt like I was just wasting time I should've been spending pummeling enemies, especially in the final boss. I apologize for the amount of time I wasted there xD

Trix's hitboxes in general feel like they need to extend to his body more. I felt myself missing attacks a lot of the time as if the enemy was almost 'too close'.

One thing that broke my heart was reaching the final boss, using my max level magic, and having it miss because the boss was too far away... I definitely miss the 'screen pause and all enemies guaranteed to be hit' of the original games. I also feel that that blue elves are way too hard to hit. They're much more evasive and dodgy than the original games, which only makes the sub-par magic feel even worse, because it's hard to actually collect magic, only to have it MISS when you finally have enough to use it :/

Having said all that though, Trix himself IS very fun to play. The three weapons he is able to wield all have fun special moves, from his long range apple toss to the spinning dagger attack, and I enjoy is his quick regular hits with the latter. His wand special is probably the best of the roster, though that's not saying too much, since the wand (along with the bow) is easily the worst weapon in the game. It definitely feels more like a special than the other characters though and I tried to show it off at least once in the video, albeit not for long, lol. I think with a little polish, and perhaps at least one unique runattack (he uses the same one with all weapons), Trix could be a great character.

Who should be the next character to bravely hunt down the vicious Hellstrike and reclaim the Golden Axe for the forces of good? Our remaining characters are:
- Cragger
- Sara
