GRID Legends (2022) - Every PC F1 Game
GRID Legends by Codemasters/EA, 2022.
Much like GRID Autosport taking GRID 2 and making it a bit better, GRID Legends does pretty much the same thing to GRID (2019). Most of the content came across, with some new additions I'm pretty sure were lifted from the Project CARS series. The graphics have been amped up with plenty of bloom, lens flare and so on, whilst even the replay modes now work, sticking with the camera you chose!
F1-car-wise, there is the fictional Formula X (taken directly from Project CARS 2 and 3), but here I'm using the 2006 Renault R26. When I captured GRID (2019) I used a selection of skins, as I unlocked the car, but here I'm using the loaned car, which is only available in original Renault colours (apart from the second clip where I follow a computer controlled car for livery variety!).
Sound is once again good enough (although you can hear birdsong far too clearly sometimes!), handling is simcade as usual, but they've totally maxed out the crashes, with the ability to fly and roll! This also leads to computer cars doing this just in-front of you, which does look spectacular!
The video cut scenes round off the story mode much better than the previous game.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Once again, no Monza, so here's Brands Hatch. Rubbing's racing, right?!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:27 Silverstone was in GRID (2019) but didn't make it over to GRID Legends (despite the game doubling down on BTCC classic super touring cars!). So, here I'm using the Chinese Zhejiang circuit instead. Wet weather looks great, but the added-on lights to F1 cars is dodgy, as is running in the wet on slick, dry-weather tyres!
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:54 I've used Paris again, as there's no Monaco. Colours are deeper and fireworks added for pizzazz!
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:16 Suzuka again stands in for Spa, the clouds here look fantastic, with infrequent lightning in the distance. Sadly we're racing full speed through 130R on dry-weather tyres, without losing grip, sigh...!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:36 Just as per GRID (2019), I've broken my Renault at Malaysia, but can't get into the pits as they're barricaded off! Pitstops are not allowed! Despite being able to run 99 lap races! Then there's ticker tape everywhere, as I ran with just 1 lap, hence everyone celebrating me managing to get to the end of the lap, destroyed!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:57 This is where the largest improvement is; crashes look EPIC! However they are a bit quirky; see me drive OVER my team mate (don't worry, computer-controlled cars always seem to recover!)... I also fail to get a Terminal Damage crash, despite my best efforts. You seem to only be able to get those if you hit a wall flat out, rather than another car (or fly into a wall!).
