Gun Metal is a pretty cool futuristic 3rd-Person Action shooter developed by the now-defunct company, Rage Software. It was originally made for the Xbox, though it was ported to PCs a year later (though the PC port wouldn't be released in the U.S. for about two years after it was released in Europe). While it was pretty lacking in terms of features and length (and it's a single player game), it made up for it with lots of action and a good presentation, not to mention playing with a walker that can transform into a jet whenever you want is just cool (and it has the luxury of being an early Xbox game). Your job is simple: Fight in a war using the latest experimental weapon, codenamed "Project Gun Metal", to turn the tide. There's a little more to it, but that's the general idea.

Using a versatile battle unit called the Havoc Suit (which can morph into the Havoc Jet), you must use several weapons to destroy loads of enemies while satisfying various mission objectives. As you progress, you'll gain access to new weapons and upgrades and the battles naturally get tougher as well. If you've played some other Rage Software games like "Incoming" (PC, Dreamcast) and Millenium Soldier: Expendable (PC, Playstation, Dreamcast), you'll know Rage can deliver some pretty sweet destruction, and this game isn't any different. While things are relatively simple at first, you'll soon fly in your jet blasting rock formations to bits, scorching forests with searing flames, or blowing up large buildings while fighting off massive swarms. It's relatively simple, but fun while it lasts. This is a video showing the first two levels. Enjoy.
