GunForce is a port of an arcade game, and it tries it's damnedest to be Contra. I mean, it is from the folks that gave us Metal Slug! Does it succeed?
Well, to be honest, it's an abortion.
It looks okay in still shots, I'll give it that. But it's incredibly slow, the screen does a weird auto-scroll everytime you move too far, and the animation is not so hot. The controls are awful - they're laggy, and you'll often have a hard time lining up any good shots. The music is pretty standard background fare (and not memorable in the slightest), and the only sound that comes out of anyone is the hilarious death screen when you get hit by a bullet you probably never saw coming. At least it's mercifully short and easy.
I was excited about another Contra-style game - especially from Irem - but I'd be a terrible person if I actually recommended this to anybody, and I'm certain that whoever developed this version has a lonely corner of Hell patiently awaiting them.
