Half-Life 2: Cinematic Mod - Remaster | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
Today we archive one of my top 10 favorite games of all time with a mod I have been playing for many years. Half-Life 2 was such a revolutionary game when it came out back in 2004 and I remember being so blown away by the graphics, story and physics engine. It is a game that inspired other games to come and still holds up so well today with awesome pacing, varied gameplay, likeable characters and amazing atmosphere and story.
Only a year after the release a mod was released named Cinematic Mod and it was presented as a more cinematic experience with better graphics, new models, music and weapons. The development was underway for 8 years and the end result is an awesome way to experience Half-Life 2.
I do think there are a few flaws that this mod brings, but mostly it is a great way to remix the regular game and give it a nice coat of paint. Because besides just new textures there are also a lot of new objects laying around and this becomes apparent within the first 5 minutes. City 17 is so much more cluttered with vegetations, vehicles and other objects.
Also the river section is more epic since there are now plenty of buildings positioned everywhere which makes it feel like you are escaping a massive city rather than traveling through the outskirts.
There are a few moments where the increased vegetation becomes too much and you cannot clearly see the path you are supposed to take like with the buggy sequence. Also the sand area was not always clear on which areas you could traverse without alarming the Antlions because of the new textures.
Probably the biggest misses that the game has are its new graffiti art that feels very much out of place sometimes and also the character models will not be to everyone's liking since they differ so much from the original characters. You can actually play this with the original models in tact, but since this is about the Cinemattic Mod I wanted to show it in its full glory with also the new models for everyone.
All in all I see that this mod does generate some bad news here and there, but I think its a cool way to experience HL2. Of course the original way is still superior, but it felt fresh to see it in this way and I would love to try out other graphics mods and cannot wait to archive Half-Life 2 RTX in the future.
