As a young Yaoling Keeper, you’ll embark on a thrilling adventure to tame these creatures and assist those in need. But as the story unfolds, you might find yourself playing a crucial role in saving this troubled world.
The game begins with the choice of three starter Yaolings, each specializing in unique abilities. These creatures are not only adorable but also integral to your journey. One of the standout features of Yaoling: Mythical Journey is the “charms” mechanic, which functions like cards that grant special gameplay abilities. Charms can heal your Yaolings, deal elemental damage (fire, ice, etc.), and most importantly, help capture new Yaolings outside of battle to add to your growing team.
The battle system is automated, but don’t let that fool you—strategy and placement are key to success. Watching your Yaolings use swords, arrows, and brute strength in action feels rewarding, knowing your decisions have a direct impact.
The world is vast, offering multiple terrains to explore, unique Yaoling to capture, and shrine-like structures that allow you to teleport across the map. It’s a game that combines elements of monster collecting and gym challenges from Pokémon with the expansive, auto-battling world of Xenoblade, all in an accessible top-down perspective.
