7It's times like these when I wish Ugly as Sin's respirators would spawn naturally in the world. There's a part midway through this map where you have to swim a particularly lengthy section in order to open the way forward. Unfortunately, unlike the original mod where you have unlimited air time, I do not possess such luxury and would always start drowning halfway through.
Now, as I said before, Ugly as Sin has a respirator item that helps with maps like these. Unfortunately, they're only something that you can bring with you in loadouts or find in backpacks. I didn't know that this bit was coming, and even if I did, I don't think I'd be able to carry a respirator from the start of the run to this one considering the last map wiped all my inventory. There are addons that would allow me to loot them from marine corpses, but I don't think Xeno Effect has a lot of them in between anyways, so I don't think they'd be useful here, either.
Fortunately, HDest's own mechanics came to the rescue for me. Once again, doorbusting became very useful in order for me to finish a map, blasting open the door to the exit instead of trying to force myself through a concerningly deep underwater room that would've surely drowned me before I'd even reach the switch, let alone make the return trip. Always useful to have mechanics to circumvent tricky setups like these when the player isn't as capable.
