How Alone In The Dark Shaped Survival Horror
If you like survival horror games, then you owe a lot to Alone in the Dark. The 1992 game set a precedent for the likes of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dead Space, and others to follow. For our second spooky video of October 2022, we wanted to take a look at how this somewhat forgotten game pulled it off.
The tropes we’ve come to expect from survival horror are all found here. You fight monsters with limited ammo, solve puzzles, and navigate mazes. There are even some less common ideas that other games still borrow today. We dive into all of those mechanics in this video.
If you want to play the original Alone in the Dark these days, it’s actually not very difficult at all. The PC game can be downloaded from Steam or GOG.
