Every Persona game has its unique hooks, but there’s only one that lets you choose your character at the start. When Persona 3 re-released on PSP as Persona 3 Portable, it gave players the option to select a male or female protagonist. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment has a female lead, but Portable is the only one with a choice.

This short quickly goes over why the feature was added and some of the effects it had on the game’s story. Other games like Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal have re-released with new content, but only Persona 3 Portable has a choice like this.

For those who don’t have access to a PSP, don’t worry -- there are several other ways to play Persona 3 Portable now. It’s available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Even better, it’s now part of the Game Pass catalogue on Xbox and PC.
