How To Activate Your Free ProtonMail Short Domain (@pm.me) Email Address
In this video, I will show you how to add a short domain (@pm.me) email address to your ProtonMail account. This simple, shorter domain stands for "ProtonMail me" or "Private Message me." All ProtonMail users, except those added as part of an organization, can activate a separate @pm.me email address at no cost.

Steps To activate and add a @pm.me email address to your ProtonMail account:
1. Open up your browser and navigate to https://protonmail.com
2. Click "LOG IN" at the top right hand corner
3. Click "Settings"
4. Click "Go to settings"
5. Make sure you're in your ProtonMail General settings, click the purple button which says "Activate YourUsername@:pm.me"
6. You will be greeted with a small window prompting you to "Sign in again to continue" enter your ProtonMail password and click "Submit"
7. You will then be greeted with another windows to generate an encryption key for your new ProtonMail short domain email address. You have three different forms of encryption to generate your encryption key:
- High security RSA 2048-bit (Older but faster)
- Highest security RSA 4096-bit (Secure but slow)
- State of the art X25519 (modern, fastest, secure)
8. Once you have chosen an encryption type, click "Submit"
9. Your encryption key will then be generated for your @pm.me short domain email address. Click "Done" to complete the activation of your Protonmail short domain email address.
10. If you're a paid user and want to send an email using @pm.me email address, click "Back to Mailbox"
11. Click "New message"
12. Your email composer will then open on the right side. Click on the default email address (@protonmail.com) in the from field
13. Select your @pm.me address from the dropdown list.
Congratulations! You have successfully activated and added your Protonmail Short domain email address.

Can free ProtonMail users send emails from @pm.me?
Users with free accounts can receive emails at their @pm.me address, but replies will be sent from your @protonmail.com or @protonmail.ch address by default. To send messages from your @pm.me address, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan.
