About this video: In this video, I show you exactly how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft 1.14. This will allow you to stop lag in Minecraft 1.14 and increase performance. I also show you how to get the correct version of Java for Minecraft as you need the correct version in order to make sure you can add as much RAM as possible to Minecraft 1.14, so let's go ahead and jumpr right on into it!
First and foremost, you will need to check how much RAM your computer even has to dedicate to Minecraft. This is going to be found by click on the Windows icon in the bottom left of your screen, and search for 'system information'. Here, you will have a 'installed physical memory' section. Next to that, you will see how much total RAM your computer has.
You cannot allocate more than around 75% of your total RAM to Minecraft. That is why it is so important to know how much RAM you have as if you dedicate more than that to Minecraft, your computer can crash and mess-up. Additionally, look at your 'system type' here. This is only needed if you can't add more than 4GB of RAM to Minecraft or have an 'x86' based system.
At this point, you can open up the Minecraft Launcher. From here, click the three little lines in the top right of the launcher, and the select 'Launch Options'. From there, make sure the 'Advanced settings' tab is checked. Once it is, click on whatever version of Minecraft you are wanting to play. Then, check the 'JVM Arguments' box. After that, the text box next to it will be editable.
Here you will see a number near the beginning of the text box that has a number. Mostly, it is '2G'. This is where you wll add more RAM. For example, you can up it to '4G' to get 4GB of RAM in Minecraft. How much ram should you add to Minecraft 1.14? Well, vanilla Minecraft with no mods will never need more than 4GB of RAM. However, if you are running a lot of mods, Minecraft may need up to 8GB of RAM. Overall though, never dedicate more than 75% of your total RAM to Minecraft.
At this point, you can go ahead and click 'save', go back to the news tab, and then select the version you want to place by clicking the little green arrow next to the play button. After, just click play. Minecraft 1.14 will now open up with more RAM dedicated to it!
