Have you ever needed to calculate the exact number of days between two dates in Google Sheets? Whether you're tracking project deadlines, counting down to a special event, or managing billing cycles, understanding how to compute the difference between two dates is a must-know skill in Google Sheets.

Now let's walk through the process of calculating this difference between two dates in Google Sheets, making your data analysis and tracking tasks a breeze.

Step 1. Open the Google Sheets document where you want to calculate the difference between two dates. In this example I have a document with project tasks and associated start and end dates, and a column where I want to calculate the difference between those two dates.

Step 2. Click to select the cell where you want the difference between two of your dates to be displayed.

Step 3. Enter =DATEDIF( in that cell. Inside of the parenthesis you want to start by putting the start and end date separated by a comma. After that, you want to put a "D" if you want the difference between your start date and end date to be shown in days. Alternatively you can use "Y" if you want the difference to be shown in years, or "M" if you want the difference to be shown in months. Put a closing parenthesis on the end, and then click "Enter." The difference between your two selected dates will now be shown in that cell.

If you want to drag this formula down to other cells, simply grab the lower right corner of the cell with your formula in it, and drag it down over other cells you want to copy that formula into.
