How to Capture Any Window and Add to OBS Scene (Easy Tutorial)
Capturing a specific window and adding it to an OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) scene can be useful for streaming or recording applications, games, or any other program running on your computer. Here’s how to do it:
Adding a Window Capture Source in OBS
Open OBS Studio:
Launch OBS Studio on your computer.
Create or Select a Scene:
Ensure you have a scene where you want to add the window capture. You can create a new scene by clicking the + button in the Scenes box and naming it.
Add a Window Capture Source:
In the Sources box, click the + button.
Select Window Capture from the list of options.
Name the source (e.g., "Browser Window") and click OK.
Configure Window Capture:
In the Properties window that appears, select the window you want to capture from the Window dropdown menu.
OBS will display a list of open windows. Select the one you want to capture.
Ensure the Window Match Priority is set to Match title, otherwise find window of same executable for more accurate capturing.
If the window does not appear, make sure it is open and not minimized. Sometimes you may need to restart OBS or the application for it to appear in the list.
You can also choose to capture the cursor if needed by checking the Capture Cursor box.
Adjust Capture Settings:
You can resize and reposition the window capture within your scene.
If the captured window does not fit properly within your scene, you can right-click the window capture source, select Transform, and then choose Fit to Screen to resize it to fit the canvas.
Apply and Close:
After configuring the window capture settings, click OK to add the source to your scene.
Additional Tips
Layer Order: Ensure your window capture source is properly layered in the Sources list. Sources at the top of the list will be displayed on top of those below them. Drag and drop sources to change the order if necessary.
Hotkeys: You can set up hotkeys in OBS to quickly switch between scenes or toggle visibility of the window capture source. Go to Settings - Hotkeys to configure them.
Performance: Capturing a window can sometimes be resource-intensive. Ensure your system meets the performance requirements for smooth streaming or recording.
By following these steps, you can easily capture any window on your computer and add it to your OBS scene, allowing for versatile and dynamic streaming or recording setups.
