How to configure VLC Media Player so that it doesn't lock up or freeze high quality video playback
This video will show you how to configure VLC Media Player so that it doesn't lock up and doesn't freeze video playback when either trying to play high quality video such as high definition (HD 720p or 1080p) video or when trying to play video on a low-spec machine.

In VLC, select TOOLS,
followed by PREFERENCES,
in the bottom left corner, change the SHOW SETTINGS option from SIMPLE to ALL,
in the white box (above) expand the INPUT / CODECS menu,
under that, expand the VIDEO CODECS menu,
under VIDEO CODECS, select FFMpeg,
under the newly opened FFMPEG AUDIO/VIDEO DECODER section (right) scroll down a bit to find the SKIP THE LOOP FILTER FOR H.264 DECODING option,
change this option from NONE to ALL,
select SAVE
