How to Connect Mouse & Keyboard to iPhone for Wired or Wireless (100% Works!)
Connecting a mouse and keyboard to an iPhone can be done via wired or wireless methods. Below are step-by-step instructions for both, ensuring functionality on iOS devices (iPhone running iOS 13 or later). Note that mouse support on iPhones requires enabling AssistiveTouch, as it’s primarily an accessibility feature.
Wired Connection
Requirements:
USB-C to USB-A adapter (for iPhone 15 series or newer with USB-C port) or Lightning to USB Camera Adapter (for older iPhones with Lightning port, e.g., Apple’s $29 adapter).
USB mouse and/or keyboard.
Optional: Powered USB hub for multiple devices or power-hungry peripherals (Lightning ports may not supply enough power).
Steps:
Connect the Adapter:
Plug the USB-C or Lightning adapter into your iPhone’s port.
Attach Mouse/Keyboard:
Connect the USB mouse or keyboard to the adapter’s USB-A port.
For both devices, use a powered USB hub connected to the adapter to support multiple peripherals. Note: Lightning ports may struggle with unpowered hubs due to limited power output; a powered hub is recommended.
Enable AssistiveTouch for Mouse:
Go to Settings - Accessibility - Touch - AssistiveTouch.
Turn on AssistiveTouch. A grey circular pointer and AssistiveTouch button will appear.
For wired mice, tap Devices - USB Receiver (or the device name) to connect.
Keyboard Functionality:
The keyboard should work automatically in text fields without additional settings.
If the onscreen keyboard disappears, enable it via Settings - Accessibility - Touch - AssistiveTouch - Show Onscreen Keyboard.
Troubleshooting:
If devices don’t work, ensure the adapter is Apple-certified (MFi). Cheap adapters may fail.
For Lightning iPhones, connect a power source to the adapter’s charging port if the device reports “requires too much power.”
Test with a different mouse/keyboard or hub to rule out hardware issues.
Note: Not all mice/keyboards are compatible; generic USB devices typically work, but advanced features (e.g., programmable buttons) may not. Apple’s Magic Mouse is not supported on iPhones via Bluetooth.
Wireless Connection
Wireless connections use Bluetooth or a USB wireless receiver (2.4GHz).
Option 1: Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard
Requirements:
Bluetooth-enabled mouse/keyboard (e.g., Logitech MX Keys, Apple Magic Keyboard).
iPhone with Bluetooth (all models support this).
Steps:
Enable Bluetooth:
Go to Settings - Bluetooth and turn it on.
Put Device in Pairing Mode:
For the mouse/keyboard, activate pairing mode (check the manual, often a button press until an LED blinks).
Pair the Device:
In Bluetooth settings, find the device under Other Devices and tap to connect. Enter any pairing code if prompted (e.g., “0000” or “1234”).
For mice, go to Settings - Accessibility - Touch- AssistiveTouch - Devices - Bluetooth Devices, select the mouse, and pair if not already connected.
Enable AssistiveTouch for Mouse:
Go to Settings - Accessibility - Touch - AssistiveTouch and turn it on. The cursor will appear.
Confirm Functionality:
The keyboard should work in text fields; the mouse will show a cursor for navigation.
Troubleshooting:
If pairing fails, unpair the device from other devices (e.g., a Mac) first.
Ensure devices are charged or have fresh batteries.
For advanced mice (e.g., Logitech MX Master), use multi-device pairing to switch between iPhone and other devices.
If the onscreen keyboard is needed, enable Show Onscreen Keyboard in AssistiveTouch settings.
